It is said that there are 20,000 different kinds of kamon, or family crests, in Japan. Of these 20,000, we chose five from a design perspective, which we featured in our handkerchiefs. The beauty of kamon is expressed through embroidery in these handkerchiefs.

House of Kitashirakawa* Chrysanthemum

As a symbol of the Imperial Family, the chrysanthemum has long been a familiar flower to the Japanese, and it is said that it was first imported from China. During the Heian Period (794-1185), it was used in potions for longevity, and it was preferred as a noble flower that people appreciated. During the Kamakura Period (1185-1333), Emperor Go Toba, who deeply loved the chrysanthemum design, placed chrysanthemum flower designs on his belongings such as his clothes, furnishings, and imperial oxcart. In the passing down of this design to subsequent emperors, the chrysanthemum flower was established as the Imperial Family’s crest.
